While having practiced sado, the Japanese tea ceremony, for nearly twenty years, I never intended to make paintings of chawan(s), the highly symbolic tea bowls that are used for it. Yet one day, I realized that I had actually painted one.
This was the start of the chawan series, but then, I soon understood that these paintings were also revealing random landscapes, and that there was a connection between the tea bowl, the landscape, and my painting practice. Read more…
